What We Can Do For You
The MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION OF ALBERTA is a trade Association comprised of contractors and suppliers of the plumbing, heating and mechanical industry ranging from a proprietorship to national companies whether open shop or union. The Association is the recognized spokesperson for the Plumbing and Pipefitting Mechanical Trades as well as the promoter, protector and watchdog for the industry.
MISSION STATEMENT: To foster professional advancement and profitability of the plumbing, heating and mechanical contracting industry through its member services.
VISION STATEMENT : To draw into the Association all plumbing, heating and mechanical contractors and industry affiliates through professionalism and services.
CONTRACTOR MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
GROUP INSURANCE: The Association prides itself in making available to its members an excellent group insurance plan at very competitive rates. Most contractors and industry affiliated individuals join for this reason.
DISCOUNT PROGRAMS: The Association constantly seeks valuable and acceptable discount programs to provide savings for our members. Our current program with Petro Canada allows for 2.7 cents per litre discount. The savings on this benefit alone often pays for the MCA membership.
COLLECTION ASSISTANCE: Having trouble with your receivables? MCA will send a series of three letters to your past due accounts. It’s a member benefit at no cost to you – and it does often bring very favourable results.
APPRENTICESHIP TUITION FEE SUBSIDY: To assist contractor members in providing an additional benefit to their apprentice employees in our trades, MCA provides a tuition fee subsidy.
INDUSTRY AWARENESS: You need to keep informed on what is happening in your industry. Regular information is provided through memos, newsletter & publications such as the annual Mechanical Plumbers & Piping Journal. Furthermore, valuable regular surveys are conducted on direct labour and overhead costs to help you price properly and stay in business.
MANAGEMENT EDUCATION: MCA believes that its members want to know about new management techniques improved products and competitive practices. These are either MCA or affiliated Association sponsored seminars such as the Canadian Mechanical Contractors Education Foundation (CMCEF). MCA provides you information on our own or other upcoming seminars of importance to you.
NATIONAL CODES REPRESENTATON: Your MCA has individuals that represent our industry on the C.S.A. and National Research Council, on the Plumbing Codes B 149 Gas Codes and Hydronic Heating Codes Committees.
MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS (NETWORKING): Regular membership meetings provide opportunity to discuss industry and association business and meet your peers and suppliers and exchange ideas on and learn and enjoy the various speakers.
NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATION: A Contractor membership in MCA Alberta also provides a MCA Canada affiliation opening the door to national representation and attending the MCA Canada conferences. MCA Alberta is also a member of the World Plumbing Council thus providing international opportunities.
SOCIAL & SPORTING ACTIVITIES: Every so often you need a change from all of your hard work. MCA membership allows you to participate in a provincial conference, curling bonspiel, golf tournament, old timers night and various other social events for both male and female.
MEMBER PROMOTION: The association participates in career and trade fairs to promote the trade and you as our members. Specialty telephone advertising in certain areas assists in promoting members further. You may use the MCA logo in your advertising.
INDUSTRY RELATED PRODUCTS - TOOLS OF THE TRADE : Job Site Journals, safety manuals, labour calculators, are just some of the items needed for your workforce and are available through the MCA Alberta & MCA Canada.
BUSINESS & LIABILITY PROGRAM: You need insurance from someone who understands your business and your risks. Over 25 years MCA has promoted Federated Insurance to be that insurance company. Another member benefit.
OPPORTUNITY FOR PARTICIPATION : Your livelihood comes from the trade. You have an opportunity to strengthen the trade by participating on one of the many committees as a MCA representative or even on the MCA Board. (i.e. apprenticeship, safety , construction, etc.)
AFFILIATIONS: MCA Alberta activity participates in and with the following related associations. ACA, ACSA, CIPH, AHAC , LAC, PAC, UA 488 & 496, ACTS & CLR SMCAA, ECAA, ASHRAE, etc.
CONTRACTOR MEMBERSHIP – MINIMUM ANNUAL DUES
$500.00 & GST=$530.00
Plus monthly dues of 10 cents per hour worked per trades person (journeyman & apprentice) for work performed under the jurisdiction of plumber, gasfitter, steamfitter-pipefitter and welder for residential, commercial and institutional and 3 cents per hour worked in the industrial field to a yearly maximum of $7500.00 per company (including labour sub-contractor hours).
