MCA Alberta
MCA of Alberta’s roots can be traced to the beginning of the 20th century. The Association’s oldest photo of a committee is that of the Master Plumbers Association – Calgary Banquet Committee of 1910, with E.J. Young as Chairman Mr. Young was to become National Chairman in 1912 – 13. Other national chairmen to come from Calgary include M.B. Anderson (Sr) (1948-49), F.J. Deeves (1961-62), G. Kientiz (1978 – 79), E. Whealleans (1991-92) and H.K. Fisher from Edmonton (1966-67). The first conference west of Winnipeg was held in Banff in 1912. Alberta has always been the forefront of training for our trades across Canada, and Mr. F. "Jack" Deeves was the main leader in developing, with other associations throughout Canada, the National Red Seal Program in Canada.

Alberta developed the first provincial medical and group insurance program in 1957, and it is still the leading Group Insurance Program within the Canadian Industry. Mr. Charlie Edgar of Fort MacLeod was Chairman that year and Mr. Bob Worden, group insurance chairman. Alberta continues to be an innovator in the area of Group Insurance for the Canadian mechanical Contracting industry. In the early 40’s Del Mould from Edmonton and the Anderson family in Calgary spent many hours preserving the history of the Association.

The Watson Family members – "Curly", "Bud" and Don (Trotter & Morton Ltd. in Calgary) – served on the national, provincial and local association for over fifty years, as have the Anderson family of Milward Jr., Milward Sr., Alex, Jack and Doug in Calgary. The Hole Family from Lockerbie and Hole Western Ltd. of Edmonton has the distinction of being the oldest mechanical plumbing company in Alberta and celebrated their 100th year of business in 1998.

Many national conventions have been held at the Banff Springs Hotel since 1912. Other venues have included the Jasper Park Lodge, Palliser Hotel and the Hotel MacDonald.

The Alberta Association has preserved many annual functions, which assist in maintaining unity between members. The provincial curling bonspiel started in 1949, and in 2000 will celebrate it 50th year. The annual "Old Timers" night in Calgary will celebrate its 38th year in 1999, and in Edmonton its 15th year.

The Alberta Association was responsible for introducing the World Plumbing Council (WPC) to Canada, since 1993, MCA Canada’s Centennial Conference in Ottawa, the World Plumbing Inner Council attended the 1995 meeting in Ottawa. Derek McCorquindale, former Executive Director of MCA Alberta was the Treasurer of the WPC, and was appointed coordinator for the 1995 tour to Canada.
